ADEI, the Association of Independent Italian Publishers, brings together a large groupof children’s publishers who represent the richness and quality of our editorial industry.
The commitment of independent Italian publishers to promoting reading is clearly visible in their catalogues, in their choice and selection of quality stories, popularisation, poetry and images. “The art of writing tales consists in an ability to draw the rest of life from the little one has understood of it; but life begins again at the end of the page, and one realises that one has knew nothing whatsoever.”
ADEI is committed to highlighting the work of its member publishers and giving them the greatest possible visibility. The purpose of the catalogue you are holding in your hands is to invite you to explore the catalogues of independent Italian children’s publishers and to promote a meaningful exchange, not only for our businesses, but also to build a bridge of books between different peoples and cultures. Through literature, we can break down walls and cross borders with the seven-league boots that stories provide.
ADEI is also actively working with the italian government to help improve Italy’s programs to support the translation of our literature. Since 2024, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recognised the special quality of illustrated literature, and is now committed to supporting not only translation, but also part of the production expenses when it comes to picture books. We hope this will open up new opportunities for our common goal: to bring good books across borders to children around the world.
